For a better understanding of the characters' personalities and motivations, it is better to read "Courting the Countess" first, although this is technically a stand-alone. Donna Hatch's prose flows well with few grammatical errors. This book is also clean. I've read most of Hatch's writings, and while this is not my favorite, I recommend them all. Courting the Countess begins Donna Hatch's Courting series. I enjoyed this book. I loved Richard and Elizabeth's learning to grow throughout the story. Four and a half stars. Was this review helpful? Her books have depth, they are clean and the attraction (and eventually, the love) is felt between the couple without it (the story) being graphic. That being said, I enjoyed 'Courting the Countess'. It dealt with themes like trust and communication (and the lack thereof). Courting the Countess is a book of two souls who are looking to feel loved. Lady Elizabeth falls for the dashing Tristan Barrett to only be caught in a secluded garden by none other than her brother. To save her reputation, her father, demands Elizabeth to marry Tristan's older brother, Richard, Earl of Averston.
